Minecraft Pocket Edition, the iOS version of the popular Minecraft PC game, is getting what developer Mojang says is the app’s biggest update yet today. Version 0.9.0 introduces a number of new features carried over from the original game including infinite worlds, much improved caves, wolves, new items, and much, much more. In addition, Mojang is bringing over new biomes from the PC version of the game with mesas, jungles, swamps and extreme hills, and you’ll also notice abandoned mineshafts, villages and “new feature generation, including lakes, vines and monster rooms....

Back in May of this year, Microsoft announced that it would launch its digital personal assistant, Cortana for Android (and iOS), with a tentative launch date of “late June.” Unfortunately for Android users wanting to test out Cortana, that timeframe was adjusted to “late July,” with Microsoft refusing to actually circle a date on the calendar for the launch. For those willing to try out leaked software, Cortana would find her way out onto the Internet in mid-July, but still, Microsoft was mum on when the official release would happen....

Recent research shows the approaches pioneered by AlphaFold are spreading to the broader biology community. In a paper in the journal PNAS this month, “Deep learning guided optimization of human antibody against SARS-CoV-2 variants with broad neutralization,” scientists describe modifying a known antibody against COVID-19 in such a way as to boost its efficacy against multiple variants of the disease. “We enable expanded antibody breadth and improved potency by ∼10- to 600-fold against SARS-CoV-2 variants, including Delta,” starting from an antibody that had no effectiveness against the Delta variant, the scientists write....

It is, however, rather apt that the best implementation of the gesture-based interface comes from the company many call the Chinese Apple, Xiaomi. The company brought a gesture-based interface to its “full screen” devices, i.e., devices with 18:9 aspect ratio (in India that would mean the Redmi 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Mi Mix 2) with the MIUI 9.5 update that was made available for download a while ago – rather appropriately the gestures are called full-screen gestures....

This leaves us wondering what might be in Microsoft’s pipeline that the company is boasting about? Well for starters the Tweets by Panos Pranay contained the Surface hashtag. Also, the venue of the event is Shanghai instead of New York. In all likelihood, Microsoft may be lining up the Surface Pro 5 which will come with an update to Kabylake but apart from that we are left with no options but to presume that perhaps the announcement has something to do with the mixed reality....
